JULY 2009 UNITED STATES SUBMARINE VETERANS – GREAT LAKES BASE NEWS & INFORMATION

1. Happy Birthday this month to: Rick Wilson on the 10^th, Leo Monahan on the 19^th and Herman Mueller on July 31^st.

2. The Fathers Day Parade in Mukwonago was another huge success! Thanks to all members, friends and family that were able to make it and participate. There is a few photos below from the event.

3. July 4^th & 5^th Racine & Kenosha parades will probably be completed by the time you receive this news-card. Our next event is State Fair Military Recognition Day on Sunday, August 16^th. Details for that event should be ready by our meeting in August. Here is a note from the State Fair Website: WAL-MART MILITARY RECOGNITION DAY - Sunday, August 16 - Wal-Mart is proud to sponsor Military Recognition Day celebrating our Veterans and active duty personnel with a special tribute and many activities and demonstrations taking place all day long in Central Mall. Don’t miss the annual Military Recognition Parade stepping off at 2pm and marching throughout the Fair Park.

4. 2009 National USSVI Convention (September 8 - 12, 2009) in San Diego, CA at the Town and Country Resort Hotel and Convention Center will be a "joint" convention with shipmates from the International Submariners Association and the Submariners Association of Canada. This will be a great addition to the convention and presents a real opportunity for submariners from around the globe to share our common bond of service aboard submarines.
