Our next meeting, Saturday, February 13, 2010 @ 1:00pm at the Harvey Funk American Legion Post in Caledonia, WI.  Directions to the Post:

 

From Illinois & South-

Take I-94 N to Racine, WI exit 329, (Racine County Highway K).  This exit drops you onto the East Frontage Road.  The Funk American Legion Post is just a few hundred yards down the road on your right.

 

 From Milwaukee & North-

Take I-94 S to exit 329. Turn East (left) onto Highway K (Racine County).  Just under I-94, turn right (South) onto East Frontage Road to the American Legion Post (1 block).

 

FEBRUARY 2010 UNITED STATES SUBMARINE VETERANS – GREAT LAKES BASE NEWS & INFORMATION

 

1.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY THIS MONTH TO: William Kamphausen on the 2nd, Jerry Schoemann on the 5th, Paul Boche on the 9th, Sue Heckelsmiller on the 11th, Vice Commander & Store Keeper - Larry Heckelsmiller on the 12th, Dennis Buechel & Mel Douyette on the 13th, Base Commander - Scott Jaklin on the 17th, Tom Longo on the 23rd and Steve Smandra JR on the 25th.

 

2.  USS WISCONSIN (SSN908).  The Milwaukee Boat Show was a successful Mission.  It was a long patrol.  Our goal was to inform people about the US Submarine Veterans and the Great Lakes Base, recruit new members and sponsors, and lastly, raise funds through donations and Torpedo Juice/ T-Shirt sales.  Mission accomplished!  The Great Lakes Base "Ships Store" did well also with donations for their T-Shirts.  To the Crew: "A Job Well Done!"  Gary - Pride Runs Deep

 

3.  MESS COOK WATCH.  Thanks go out to Ron Grundy for January’s lunch.  This month is on the watchbill is Jerry Schoemann with a “Birthday Surprise.”  John Surman is on the watchbill for March.  Because the Submarine Birthday Ball is on our meeting date in April, we will not have a meeting.  Ellis Jordan and his daughter Amanda are on the watchbill for May. 

 

4.  2010 SUBMARINE BIRTHDAY BALL, SATURDAY, APRIL 10, 2010 AT THE HOLIDAY INN, MANITOWOC, WI.  All present and former submarine personnel, military personnel, families and friends are invited.  This is a great opportunity show friends and family what we are all about.  Tickets are $35 each.  The registration form is on the base website, www.SubVeteran.org.  We will also have them available at the meeting.

   

·         Dress: Active or Retired Military: Navy - Service Dress Blues with ribbons, other services; Service Dress with ribbons.

·         Civilians: Semi-formal

·         Cocktails at 1700, Program and Dinner at 1800

·         Guest Speaker: Firman Balza, Pearl Harbor Survivor
